(RAMBLINGS) And then there were Board games again

During this whole Covid mess I have been slowly getting my Legion units painted and building up my army.

It was in May that  I wanted to get some gaming back then via Analog play instead of Video games. With the inability to get some face to face gaming I started to get some games that were more for solo play.

Playing Board games by myself used to feel like this.

At first playing Solo felt weird. After all the reason that I moved away primarily from Miniature Gaming was because I wanted to get more people to game with me and the social interactions. If I wanted to play by myself I would just play some Video Games.

However I do like the tactile feel of Board Games. Lot of the games that I had really did not entice my family to play anyway and with group gaming still out of the question then I needed to find some Games that I can play solo.

So back in June I grabbed me Aftermath - really liked it. After that the flood gates opened since I decided I can start getting games that I can play solo. And so the "Solo" Collection grew.

Great where am I going to store these

I am eyeing a couple more games that I want to purchase. ( Looking at the Monsters and Minions Expansion ) and Jaws of the Lion  ( For Gloom Haven) Speaking of Gloom Haven I was never really interested in that until I played the game in STEAM so kudos for them starting on that.

At the same time.. I am starting to look for SOLO variants for a couple of games that I have and time for me to play some IMPERIAL ASSAULT games as well using the APP.

So looks like I need to enjoy playing more games by myself for a while

PAINTING: Painting Project OMEGA PROTOCOL is done.

And over the last couple of weeks while I was resting my foot (whether it is gout or just a simple sprain). I managed to paint and complete the rest of the OMEGA protocol figs.

Someone teased me that I never really needed to finish this and should have completed my still unpainted armies but this gave me something (inspiration perhaps) to actually complete them.

PAINTING - Not exactly Miniatures but good enough (OMEGA PROTOCOL Pics)

Well I suddenly had the urge to spray bomb something and then paint but not exactly my (unpainted)  miniature collection. Had the urge to paint up the gaming pieces for my Omega Protocol set. Good thing I have been working at home for most of the days because of a bad right foot.

Not bad work I guess. Here be pics.

A sort of blurred shot of the Commandos

BOARDGAME Time at the House... and hey where are the Hobby Updates?

Last weekend after watching Pacific Rim managed to grab Obi and Fred over and with Donuts and some Soda we went to have some good old Afternoon Boardgame sessions.

TAKENOKO

First up was Obi's game of Takenoko. It was a game of Move Farmer to grow Bamboo while the Panda Eats it. It was a light game and a quick one but has some good strategy decisions there as well. Makes for a good introduction game for the non-gamers. Fred Managed to beat us all by getting to his 8 objectives (getting the extra VP from the Emperor) and won this round.

Is that the stomach of the farmer or the panda?

SMASH UP

Onwards to a quick game of SMASH UP!!! Fred and Obi dig the race combinations and start having a blast Managed to eck out a win with my Robot-Dinosaur Faction. Huzzah !!

SMALL WORLD

Obi's requested game. You cannot spell Slaughter without the Laughter is its tagline. :P. I started to play as Wizards, Obi as the Amazons and Fred getting lucky with Spirit Ghouls. I tried to stay as far away from Fred as I can but the Ghouls kept on coming.

Humans assault  but not enough to win

After 3 turns I then decided to have the Wizards go to Decline and get some Wealthy Halfling . Meanwhile Fred has declined his Spirit Ghouls and got some Fortified Elves while Obi goes for some Flying Tritons. Fred's ability to generate Fortifications that create VP and his still attacking Ghouls even when on decline allows him to rack up some massive points. I go to decline the Halflings and get some Commando Humans while Obi goes for Orcs.

In the end the Human push was not enough and Fred gets a massive amount of points from the Fortifications to win the game !! (He was getting like 15+ points a turn)

SMASH UP PART TWO

We had one more game before we called it its. I was playing Alien Tricksters while Obi got Robot Ninjas and Fred Pirate Zombies ( yes those names sound awesome)

Fred played excellent with some good Broadside cards in play to kill off my and Obi;s buggers while he kept cycling his heavy stuff back to Break bases and get first place. His last play of playing Broadsides at The Mall (the one that gave 1Vp for every minion you have) ensured that he was the only one with enough Minions there and with 6 of them got the 6VP to win the game !!!

A fun time was had by all. On to next time. Perhaps me and Obi and Fred can finally attend an Open Gaming day this end of July.

WAIT WHAT ABOUT YOUR MODELLING STUFF?

Yes I have not forgotten. I managed to go back to Devior and got me some Vallejo Model Colors again. I plan to finally finish the Corporation this week so I can go back and touch up the 16 Shoota Boyz that I did for that GOLD CUP.

Here is crossing my fingers :D

BOARD GAME : SMASH UP !!!

Well not really a board game but a card game, anyway after watching the Youtube video by Whil at TableTopGaming and looking at the reviews went out and bought this last Friday. After a Company Basketball game I got to bring this and have a game at the Shakk and had a blast.

Manage to play 3 games with me not getting a win in. The first game was a Dinosaur-Zombie win then a Wizard-Ninja win and the last was a Zombie-Ninja win.

I actually like the game. Perhaps it is the geek in me that likes to combine the different (stereotypical perhaps? ) factions and combine them for world domination. It is light and fast enough that even non-hardcore games can play this and have fun.

I am going to save up and get that Awesome Power 9000 expansion eventually. Not too keen on the Cthulu expansion yet, the additional Madness deck feels that it needs to be played with only Cthulu factions and not mix with the other expansions. Will see.

BOARDGAME: Good times with Sthrad and Raipo

Though nothing was done modelling wise with my projects for this week, I did manage to get some geeky Board Gaming time with Raipo coming in straight from his night shift work to crash at my place before gaming as well as Sthrad that had came all the way from San Antonio Zambales to get a game in; despite having to reschedule the the event 2 days prior to the weekend.

BOARDGAMING : 6 Player StarCraft

Where to launch the assault?
I never thought I'd see the day that I would actually have the chance to get up to 6 players for a game of Starcraft (and its Broodwar expansion) usually players and even I would be hesitant to try this because the board would take up too much space  and the length of the game would be 4+ hours and longer specially if you still needed to teach the game.

BOARDGAMING:

One of the reasons that I haven't made some progress in finishing painting my army (aside from the new baby, laziness and whatnot).. has been because for the past 3 years I have been more invested in board gaming.
Now the new kind of board gaming is a far cry from those Monopoly or Risk days we used to have in college. Some of these games are complex with theme and great mechanics.

Much as this had been intentionally a wargamming blog I might as well broaden the horizons somewhat and include the other games that I am as well as life in general..

Speaking of games:
-----------

I have had Raipo, Homer, Roe and there friends come over for some boardgame madness.. I have had friends come over from time to time to play but I appreciate the fact that they would come all the way from Laguna for some boardgame madness..

----------
For the first visit I had introduced them to RuneWars which they seem to love "forget the dragon runes, send the armies forward!!!"

See Raipo's writeup  here

For there next visit I finally had them experience how tense A Game of Thrones boardgame would be with a full set of 5 players.. Next was a game of Puerto Rico and then Last Night on Earth. (my very first Modern Game -- realized that I haven't even had fixed the expansions that I had bought with the game.. doh)

Hopefully will get a chance for some more gaming in the months to come (probably just do this once a month)
