WIP: Tau Allies and first work with InstaMold

Well I caved in and started to make me some Tau Allies for my Orks.. (For the Greater Waaagh)

I was planning to field the following TAU allies.

  • Suit Commander
  • 2 Honor Crisis Suits
  • Riptide --> hey wouldn't use this X)
  • Firewarriors
  • Skyray

Had a bit of a problem with the Skyray and I lost the sensor bit for the turret when I was cleaning it on the balcony. A wrong move and poof it went over the ledge..(phat Effing fingers). Fortunately I had another Skyray so still had that same bit .Well necessity is the mother of invention so out came the InstaMold.

After having this for months I finally brought it out and tried it and I was impressed with how relatively easy it was. I did use Epo-Wood putty for this which is the best putty really because this thing can be easily cut but is durable.

A friend of mine was gracious enough to prime and base coat my Tau Ally figs for me..  no way was I going to finish painting them all in time for the GT.. So now all I need to do is highlight them.

Well I got less than a month now to finish all of it .. :)

WIP FRIDAY UPDATE: Lootas and Grot Crew

The Philippine Grand Tournament schedule has been officially announced and I have more than 2 months to finish an army and play it in the GT. I am once again going to join it for the purpose of forcing myself to finish painting more of my unpainted stuff. I am more of a gamer than a painter really but having to join tournaments does push me to finish models that have been languishing for more than a decade now :P

WIP: Shokk Attack, Grot Crew , Lootas

With the planned announcement of the 40k GT to be by October and with my new project giving me some less stress days I had me some time over the past few days to finish off my inventory of my (mostly) models as well as getting some hobby time in.

I had promised myself that I would use units for the GT that had not been completed (unlike some others that are all focused on using as little models that needed to be painted/assembled) so as to force me to complete a few of the modelling projects that have been languishing for so long .

So with the wife and baby having to sleep in the downstairs bedroom since our room has turned into a mini-bodega this gave me time to do some assembling and modelling work.

WIP: What the Hell I did during my vacation the week before

[EDIT: Well this was supposed to have been for the March 5 WIP.. but hey better late than never right? X)]

Last Wednesday after going to the gym since I was bored as hell with my "vacation"  (I was supposed to go to Boracay and then to Batangas.. both events got cancelled.. no way was I going to cancel my vacation leave though.. soooo boredeom)  so I biked all the way to Festival Mall to (amongst other things) hunt for new brushes to use (since the ones that I got easily lost the point.. .

I was able to buy me an expensive Tamiya brush before I went to National and got me some reeves cheap brushes as well as a sakura brush that was a lot cheaper than the Tamiya brush..
Oooh.. I managed to buy brushes

WIP : Ork Attack Buggy

Well during the middle of my long vacation I finally decided to at least start on making the converted Attack Buggy. I thought it was going to be easy.. just take out the screws and pop open the wheels.. Well then i saw that it was using a funky kind of screw.

What the F?

WIP: Kommandos and Dread and Kan Spray Bombing

As a further motivating factor to keep me going painting and modelling wise I will be forcing myself to do  a weekly Monday Work in Progress Report.. (WIP for short.. duh) maybe it will get me to keep pushing myself on the stuff I have been doing. (However for this first one this is  a scheduled post (as I am gone for the week)  but at least this should set the tone when I get back from my one week sailing "vacation"

I had started cleaning the dust out of some of the models that I had wanted to spray bomb... I had them washed in soap and finally placed some basing already for them.

Finally some time posting and modelling

Howdy to whoever is actually reading this (which is probably just me.. helps to retain the sanity).

I am currently modelling up yet some more orks to complete a 1000 point list as I am going to be compete with Obi in a 2 on 2 team tournament.. We have both decided to field orks and just to have it all on the line and get it done.. both of us have decided oh what the heck and fielded Snikrot... (hence our team name Sneaky Bastards)

The difference is that he will be playing a counts as Ghazgul while I would be having a warboss on bike. Well for the past few weeks after we had decided on the army list I have managed to do just squat... procrastination and real life have stopped me from doing anything meaningful with the army.. I have managed however to assemble 10 more ork shoota boyz for the list that I am fielding.. As well as sorta making progress on the Warboss on Bike.

With actually no imagination/inspiration for me whatsoever.. I will merely be using AOBR Warboss and putting him on a bike that I managed to get from dktiger last April.. If I managed to finish this one maybe I can actually have time left to spray bomb some figs.. (assuming it doesnt rain) and maybe make another lobba..

Who knows.. will see.

All your base belong to us

It's the start of the Holy week season here and I'm taking the opportunity to at least repair and assemble the night goblins that I still have un-assembled from the prize I got the last time in time for the an actual game of Gladiator Fantasy

And I can't believe it but I am out of fantasy slotta bases.. I have been going about removing square bases from the units that I don't need (particularly the skaven bits that I have) and I'm still short of 13. Hmmmm maybe doug is selling em. The visit to Pampanga should be interesting.

HOBBY: Nearly completely finish assembling one SM drop pod

Well that was an excercise in learning what not to do when assembling the SM drop pod.
-- Should have painted the inside or at least sprayed it black before assembling the interior.
-- fitted the top wrong so there is too much of a gap in between the doors when they close.
-- assembling a space marine drop pod when I should be more focused on finishing the WH40k orks that I do have.

Oh well..

MODELLING: Spray Bombed some Orks and finally painted after three years

Managed to finally finishing assembling, basing and spray bombing the 500 point orks that I have in preparation for the mini tournament tomorrow. It's 500 points for 4 weeks. This finally gives me the push to start on the orks.. Now that I have them spray bombed comes what I have dreading.. Looking at my paints and see what has turned to lumps of acryclic and what can still be slavagable. Ugh.

In line with the need for new paints I have managed to get 1500 in the model fund after selling off the Metal Furies (at a loss) good ol JojoBrets. His ship finally came in and he should be in the country until December. That should give us time to actually have a game of 8th Ed Fantasy.. assuming I can get army builder to work again in time :P

I was able to actually paint another figure -- Obis Scout Missile Launcher which he had left to me three years ago for me to finish painting.. I must say I was impressed with the PP paints. at least they were still consistent, not gunky and hell of a lot cheaper than the GW ones.. With the money I got from selling of my figs I might be able to justify myself in buying new paints at Fortress.. stay tuned :)

MODELLING: Assembling yet more Orks

What a rainy lazy day last Saturday. Got the chance to at least slowly assemble a few ork figs while I used some Fantasy Orks to assemble the 4 lootas. Took a while of sanding and cleaning to get the stuff to fit.

Took me 2 hours just to fit the 4 Lootas ... man talk about slow. Then the burna Mek

It took me just an hour to assemble the 10 regular ork boys with shootas though. I lined them up and it looks like the fantasy boys are a bit bigger than the new ork boys. have to check with the rest of the boys..

I just also realized that kopters can have the assault gets hot ap2 Kannons.. hmm cheaper than rokkits.. Might as well give that a try next time :)

MODELLING: Cleaning yet more Orks

Well after my game with Obi and a week passing I finally just went ahead and cleaned off the mold lines from a slew of models from the AOBR box set as well as for the Lootas and 10man Ork boy squad.

I am of course covered in plastic residue and I once again stabbed myself with the Xacto knife.

Still it was all worth it -- for at least its a start

MODELLING: Assembling yet more Orks

Well I was supposed to start painting the rest of the DH Inquisitor Retinue but the painting bug just wasn't there. So I merely did some modeling work with Exacto Knife and Needle File.

I was able to assemble the Mek with Shokk Attak Gun that I got from Paul waay back in October. Pinned the gun in place and placed him in a bigger base. I finished assembling the last DeathKopta from the AOBR set ( 3 more from the second box to go !!!) and added dreadnought sized bases on some of my Killer Kans.

I then started on taking out the plastic pieces from the different space ork models I have and placed them in the different bits boxes.. For the time when I feel like assembling them already.

Started as well on assembling the Ork Trukk but only got as far as assembling the wheels..

Lets see what I can do next week.

(Note: Interestingly I just discovered that my Nokia phone has a Sepang, Greyscale and a Negative view of the camera.... hmm maybe I should really get me a micro sd card for my
phone pics)

MODELING: Assembling AOBR Marines

Well I know I was supposed to finish painting the inquisitor retinue that my DaemonHunter Army needed but I couldn't resist cleaning and assembling all of the Space Marine Models in the AOBR set. sigh yet more stuff to paint now

MODELLING: Creating the Inquisitor and the Retinue

I had spent a long time in trying to get a DH inquisitor and Retinue finally completed and ready for the table top in time for the 40k Gt.. heres how I made the models.

For the Inquisitor and the retinue I started to scour for bits to use for them. I had old Chaos Marine plastics that had there heads removed before so I used them I wanted to create a Metal Storm unit.

For the inquisitor himself I had the idea to use a cadian grenade launcher and then merge it with a missile launcher so as to make a Psycannon out of it and then add some stuff on it some more.

I jury rigged a handle using some spare sprue then modified the cadian vox backpack to act as its power pack.

It was too armoured and not inquisitorial looking enough though so I added a parchment from the Skaven Box I had. I plan to at least paint freestyle the I on his shoulder pads

The Heavy Bolter servitors I once again used the Chaos Space Marine Torso and Legs. I then used Ork arms for them. I had initially set them to hold the Heavy Bolter in several poses with their arms but then took that out and then decided to just stick the HB on the torso itself. I then used zombie heads to get that lifeless look.

The Mystic model I used a Clan Pestilence body to get the hunched robe look and then just placed an empire head there. For the sages (which I had accidentally created two) I used high elf archer bodies with bits from the Clan Pestilence box and again Empire heads.

For the priest I used a High Elf bowman legs and torso with more Empire heads and then used empire arms for the gauntlet. I used a chaos ccw to act as a power weapon or eviserator.

Im hoping I have time to actually finish painting these guys up. Here goes to that plan...

What not to do with a Pinvise

Here's something I just found out. When the tube that contains your super glue has its nozzle clogged because of dried glue, never use your PinVise to try to unclog the hole when the glue hasn't dried yet. Heck don't do it regardless if the glue is dry or not.

I snapped the darn thing in half.. argh..

MODELLING: Doing some Orc Bosses

Wasn't in a painting mood so I decided to start assembling my new Orc Warboss on Boar with the stuff that I had won two years ago for the Jonnel Cup. The assembled Boar has a noticeable gap between the two halves, will need to fill the gap if only I can find my two part epoxy to do the job.

Also tried to assemble the Black Orc BSB on Boar but my choice of parts means I need to do some filing away some more. Now where's my Blue Tac?

GENERAL: More loot from stuff and a bit of painting done

After I had posted that my main warhammer 40k army for this year would be Orks I surprised myself by going for yet another of my friend's bargain army deals.

It was ugly to behold with bad conversions (okay a guy holding a las cannon sponsoon is part of a Lascannon team) to a very bad paint scheme (pink with green and bad bad painting) that made me nauseous and wanting to hurl.

It was a bargain as it was cheap with lots of models. I was able to get a platoon of cadians, two squads of catachans and two Basilisks for dirt cheap. Thats 60 models and 2 vehicles all for the price of 2 squad boxes. Not bad not bad at all.

Still I am now stuck paying for something I actually did not need and making me go in debt because of some models just when money is becoming tight. I may just sell them in the end but I wont know for sure till it fancies me

Of course the first thing I am going to do with this is to throw them all in brake fluid and start removing the uh "converted weapons" that the guy made to make them "count as".

=========

Managed to actually start painting again with the wife having the urge to want to paint. She started painting my converted Ogryns while I started doing touch ups to the remaining Lost and the Damned foot troops that I haven't finished painting. As I expected the paints have started drying up to a significant degree. Hopefully I would be able to at least get to use some of the stuff before it all goes to waist.

Managed to also pin and assemble the Belakor model that I got for trade for some plastic Terminators. This would serve as the Daemon Prince (which I have named Malphas) for my work in progress Chaos Space Marines army. Of course I should be working on the mutants and do retouching and varnishing. Gotta renew my focus.

One more note.. Found the inventory of Space Ork units while cleaning the room. This does not include the other models that have not yet been assembled. Will post this list soon.
