So looking at the timestamp from the last post  ( 2 years ago ) we can see that I stopped using this and just decided to post on a Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/badbeefspawning) that I created so as to consolidate all my social media into one platform.

Looking at all the old posts that I have, it is amazing that I have been posting here on and off for the last 10+ years. Most of the armies that I have are sadly still unpainted and yet I am still collecting other stuff.

I Have returned

Well after almost 3 years of being abroad time to revive this site.

I have stuff that I left exactly as it were 3 years ago (me coming home last year don't count as I never got a chance to look at my stuff. Time to revive this site then :)

2013: State of the Spawning Ground Address

Wow how fast time flies. It is already the 2nd half of the year 2013 and I still have not reviewed my past years Hobby life. Let us rectify that a bit shall we. 

2012 on a personnal note went to a very big dive in the middle of the year (June to be exact) and stayed there for a while until I managed to rebound in October. As such my hobby plans ground to a halt during that time and beyond. So let us be more specific ...

Last year I made a couple of commitments (link to previous thread) So how did I fare? Let us check:

GENERAL: Here's to 2012 and a Look back at the last year aka State of the Spawning.

Well a new year is upon us and like everybody else a time for new year resolutions and for this blog, to present New Hobby Resolutions. Resolutions that we would probably be breaking anyway.. but it's going to be interesting to see how long it will last. Let's link to the resolutions from last year and see how I fared shall we:

State of the Spawning Address: 2010 is gone here's to 2011

A bit late in coming (heh) but here is looking back at 2010 and what 2011 happens to bring:

To the year that was:

Well 2010 wasn't a total loss of my hobby time. I had managed to get more gaming in. Bought some new paint and managed to get in a couple of tournaments. With the Feb to March as the Gladiator Cup gamings this should be a good time to get back to finish gaming.

Model fund wise we saw it all evaporate to other commitments that need me to break the penny jar.. Was able to sell off some unwanted stuff though.

Revew: Frequency of posts: C-
Well 2010 was an increase of posting on my part.. From 6 back up to 17 for the whole year.. Not better than 2008 but at least better than 2009. I aim to increase the number of posts for this year as well (target at least 30 again).. will see.

Review: Number of games in: C-
Well managed to get me some 14 games of 40k and was able to even get a game with my old LaTD and some BFG action.




NEWs on the hobby side.

Have done some rework with the stuff upstairs.. basically any filing, assembling and cutting must be done on the 2nd floor balcony to be it aerated.. (at the very least) and to prevent the room from being filled with plastic dust and other toxic stuff.

I have managed to start painting again at the dining table.. I however need to remember that some things like undercoating could have been done sooner and without mess had I just spray bombed them and not having to brush it on myself.. that and I need to remember to clean with soapy water first the models.. oh well.. at least it's a start.







So now what?

The glad cup is now in full swing. I will be posting my army lists and the games I have had so far. I have forced myself to play with the other parts of the army that I have not yet assembled and primed. With me finally finding a way to transport the army without it going to pieces (using lots of double sided tape) I should be able to play then paint with the army that I have.

Speaking of paint. One of the things that have made me procrastinate is all of my GW paints gunking up and being totally unusable and me spending needless time in trying to coax some paint out of them.(oh GW .. great paints but your containers are crap crap crap)  Ah fudge it... I am replacing my paints already with SEMCO and Privateer Paints..


I do plan to get at least TWO Video Batreps in  for the Glad cup.. ala what they do in BOLS. This has been hampered a bit by the lack of motivation on my part AND having to endure 3+ hours of gaming. But I have managed to get one video report in and I hope to get it up and running here on these blog during the next few days.

GENERAL: 2009 Come and Gone.. On to 2010

Nothing survives contact with the enemy

- Wow where did the year go? I had a good plan all setup for January.. and then life/work and other hobbies got in the way (Boardgames) Nothing that I had planned for the year 2009 got to being completed at all in terms of gaming. I attribute it to more of not being able to play enough games to motivate me to assemble and paint anything at all. Speaking of paint, there is more resistance to me painting because I believe my paints have indeed all dried up and I need to start from scratch and that daunts me to paint.

Review: Frequency Posts.: F
- From a good 30 posts last 2008 to only 6 for the entire year.. wow that is bad.
Review: Number of Games in: D-
- I only got in a total of 8 games for the entire year and that definetly affects me in getting a chance to assemble and paint all of the figs that I do have. I wasnt even able to join the 40k GT.. All of the games had been with orks.. Perhaps I can get the momentum going with that part.

I was able to get one Horde game with SJ at Mcdonalds.. Just in time before MkII showed up.. Hah heres to that.

Resolutions:
- Nothing I had tried to resolve to do I was able to actually do for the entire year of 2009. Nuff Said.

To the Year 2010:
- So what about 2010? Do I just stop making resolutions and forget all about it? Im trying to analyze why I wasn't able to finish anything at all or do anything. I believe its because of inertia of actually trying to pick up a brush again and just paint anything.. For that I need new paints..
Will just buy the paints as soon as I realize I need one.. Yes its counter productive.. but at least I would be able to afford buying the paints again.

- The good thing about the first part of 2010 is the rise of the Gladiator Cup again to be headed by Romy. Im hoping this will give me the desire to pick up the brush and paint..

I at least haven't been completely idle. I was able to at the least assemble and convert a couple of lootas.. as well as clean more AOBR orks.

Also was able to get some Bunker gaming with Owen and his Sisters during the December 30 summoning.... and with Jeff Yu back to gaming I got a place to get some warhammer gaming that is near my place. Perfect :)

GENERAL : State of the Spawning Address - New hopes for 2009

The start of the new year is always a time of reflection for ones past achievements (or lack thereof) and were one gets a chance to recharge the batteries and to start anew. Looking at back I would like to see what I was able to do based on what I had planned myself here
Looking at it I failed to have done the majority of them (which was mostly modelling and painting resolutions)

Frequency of posts.
- The year 2008 I had a total of 30 posts. A far cry from the expected weekly posting but higher than 2007 with only 14. This reflects more of a lack of actual modeling time more than anything, particularly painting. I do resolve to give bi-weekly updates to the site. I eventually would like to have each army of mine have there own blog starting with the Orks.

WHFB + BFG + HORDES
- absolutely no gaming time was done for any of the armies.
- dwarves were actually sold off so there goes any second army for fantasy this 2009.


I shall implement the same point scheme as what Lone pilgrim had done over at his site:
I also need to get more games in to motivate myself to model and paint more.


Number of games in
I had only 6 games in for the whole year with 2 of them being at the GT all of them wh40k. Not a good year of gaming. However with the weekday gaming starting to go full swing at the bunker I should be able to ramp up my gaming considerably and the more games I play the more incentive I have of painting my existing models.

However with the prospect of me working abroad by the second half of the year my chances look slim for gaming then. So I need to get some good gaming while I can.


What are my resolutions for this year 2009? Here they are:
- NO NEW MODELS for the YEAR unless it comes from proceeds selling of old models.
-- I have too much stuff that I have accumulated over the years. I wont buy stuff unless I am able to get rid of
some of my other inventory of figures and use the proceeds from that. The Model Fund will be for MODELS only and not for anything else.

- Focus on one painting project at a time
-- I will stop my ningas cogon habit of painting (starting great but never finishing) I will concentrate on finishing one thing before going to the other. As my blog does indicate
I will finish painting the Inquisitor Retinue before going to the next thing which is painting the various ork units that I have. I shall paint one non-ork unit everytime I finish one so that I dont die of monotony. Still I want to be able to field a fully painted 1500 point Ork Army by 2009 then I can start to revive and finish my Crimson Fists (those that have been in storage for so long)
-- I will not kick myself in the ass for poor painting skills. As Kenton said in his blog, painting is a chore and I will paint my to "Good Enough Standards"
- Paint 50 points worth of models this 2009
- Focus on one assembly project at a time
-- I had a habit of starting something and then stopping it and trying to assemble the next thing.
- get to game at the Bunker at least once a month.

GENERAL: Where's the beef? - State of the Spawning Ground address

I have always been plagued with going one way and then going another path depending on my whims. Moreso with the models that I collect, assemble, paint and game. Well this shall serve as a way to set in writing what I plan to do for the year 2008 in terms of my modelling. This of course may change over time so I plan to do another address to be able to track my progress in terms of what I had accomplished by June.

What this blog serves.

Like it says on top this blog shall serve as my way of monitoring my painting progress as well as my forays into the miniature world. This would include my game time as well as some fluff writing for the armies and campaigns that I did. And hey maybe people will get a kick at what I'm going to do.

Organizing the blog.

Aside from Kenton Kilgore's site and a few others that I regularly visit, I am also a fan of the lone pilgrim's blog. I plan on using that same format for this year to tidy things up on this blog and keep em as organized. I was intending to put on a separate battle reports page but since I'm not doing any reviews or plan on any large number of posts this will be on the backburner.

Frequency of posts.

Time issues will prevent me from posting on a daily basis so I will make posts on my progress weekly - I target it being done on a Monday - that way I can review what I have done so far and plan for the next week. If ever I get to post more than a week then that shall be considered a bonus.

What to focus on (painting wise):

The meeting that was held last December in RHGC headquarters highlights the planned activities for the year. Too bad I had just left before they started the meeting since everyone that was there was given a Cities of Death building terrain (!!!)

The schedule as posted is:

• January 2008 - Terrain-making session and Lito's birthday
• February 2008 - Warhammer 40,000 Megabattle (Apocalypse rules)
• April 2008 - Warhammer Fantasy Grand Tournament (Kim Navarro)
• August 2008 - Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament (Arvin Tan)WARMACHINE/HORDES tournaments and leagues will still be regularly held, organized by Press Ganger Raymund, Mang, Arvin, and Kim (all of which will be announced on later dates)

Because I am more of a gamer than a painter (in fact getting into games is one of the best motivators for me to finish painting my models) I need to take the schedule into consideration on what models to paint. Nothing like a coming tournament to get me motivated and start painting again.I shall also follow Kenton's credo in painting which is to make it "good enough" and that suits me just fine.

The February schedule is a bit to near for me though. I may just happen to bring as much models as I can for that event and just play with what I have there. That means that I need to focus on the first major event on April which is the Fantasy GT and then the 40k GT for August.

I also want to put some character in my armies so I need to work hard and start adding in some unit names and fluff for them.

Warhammer 40k

My Lost and the Damned army is no more (well until there would be a third chaos codex after Daemonica) unless I plan to use them as conscripts or in Apocalypse only gaming. However I still have not got around to finish varnishing the models for me to display them. I plan on retouching the models and varnishing the models this February before I shelf them in my newly modified display case. If I still have some extra models left that I haven't touched then that is what I would be painting.

This means that for the Mega Battle that would be done this February I plan on using my Chaos models. This depends of course if the event pushes through but I am concerned if I can meet the deadline.

With the Orks getting a new codex (finally!) it looks like that its time for me to retouch the old boss's figs, and add some more models to it and get it on the gaming table. I had acquired quite a few fantasy orc models which I plan to use for shoota boyz in the codex. However I just dont know where to start again on what to paint.

For February I plan to inventory (or look for) the orks and then come up with an army list that would suite my tastes. I plan to create a list for a blood axe infantry army and a speed freak list (with the number of trukks I should be able to pull this off easily). I shall consolidate and create a 1000 point and a 1,500 point list for both types of armies.

There where two reasons why I went LATD before. One was because no one played such an army (it was unique) and the other was because then I could use different kinds of models. With that army's demise it appears that my army of choice for now would be a Radical Inquisitor army using WitchHunter and Daemon Hunter units. This would actually let me field my Space Marines or my units from my old LATD and that suits me just fine.

That is until I get my Orks up and running again. Im still undecided on wether to use the Inquisition or Orks for the GT in August. Well lets see what happens.. Again it all depends on the army list that I can manage to use and what would suit me.

Speaking of Space Marines, I do plan to retouch and then varnish whatever models are already done so that I can put em on the display case. My using Inquisition troops would allow me to field them as well anyway.

This appears to hold true for the Imperial Guard. I shall relegate them to Inducted units in the Inquisition and that would give me the chance to paint the units that I would actually need.

Additionally I want to incorporate the old Hobby Cafe website games that we had with the Corriba Sector (another home brewed sector whose original site has sadly become lost in the warp) and the campaigns that I had done in recent years (Battle for Oakwood and the Eldar Storm games.) I want to tie them all in and post the stuff here and then create a new campaign by June.

Warhammer Fantasy

My Orc and Goblin Army has remained as is with no retouches (but more damaged due to transporting the miniatures) since 6th edition (meaning half painted and assemblred models) with my painting focusing on 40k this may be once again heading for the backburner.. However it looks like the schedule for Fantasy would be earlier than 40k so if I want to compete in this one I better fix and retouch everything.

I need to make a final list of what I will bring for the Fantasy GT and then from there I can focus on what do I need to fix/retouch on. My emphasis here is to use what models I have, no scratch building or converting or buying new stuff, just fix and paint.

I have always fancied on doing a second army for Fantasy. After my deal with EJ I have enough models to finally make me a decent Dwarf Army. I plan to make an army list based on the existing models that I have and then slowly work on them AFTER the Fantasy GT.

BFG

I want to get some gaming time with my Chaos and Ork fleets from time to time. I at least have one dedicated opponent I should easily get some game time for them this year.


HORDES

I still have the Everblight starter all assembled and just waiting to be painted. With the local gaming scene more interested in playing Privateer games I may have to actually start painting these. Being a mass horde army type player I admit it is refreshing to see that I can fit the entire force in just one small tool box.

Will start painting the Shredders by March in between me fixing my Fantasy Army.



To Recap:

• Painting to focus on what games and events will be done. Critical to have the Army lists made up first before I begin painting any of the units.
• Armies that will be used for the tournaments would be the first priority. Anything else would be a way to take a break from such painting
• Feb - retouch LaTD mutants then varnish and stow for now.
• Feb - create viable army lists for Orks with the units that I have.
• March - Orcs and Goblins for the GT army this April.
• March - Paint Shredders
• April - Do a Dwarf army after the GT.
• June - army to be focused for 40k would be Inquisition with allied Space Marines. List for the GT to be created and focused on by June.
• June - Do a 40k campaign.

Thats all that I can think of for the first half of the year. Lets see what happens :)
