40K KILL TEAM LEAGUE : FINALS

Well it was an uncharacteriscally sunny day for the Kill Team finals that was held in ETON. The top 3 from the North and the South would have one final game to determine who would be the reigning champion for Kill team for the month. This would also happen to be the last

As it so happens.. I was unfortunate (or fortunate) to have the Kill Team southern sector boys on both sides.  This meant that I would wink wink at both of them and just push forward instead (Hey both were Nids and both were the the ones I lost too. Unfortunately the way in front of me was nothing but Tau Firewarriors... so well here comes the pain.

The TAU gun Line in front
As (bad) luck would have it, I would mostly go second to the TAU player in front of me that would proceed to start shooting and shooting my grots and orks down. Fortunately I think he suddenly had a healthy respect for my ork firepower as I managed to actually whittle down a few of his Fire Warriors and have some of them Go to Ground. While I committed to having my orks go and get stuck in

Crossing the Line

I actually managed to make it all the way across the board (It was like a mini battle since the ones to my left and right were all focusing on the ones in front..) concentrating my fire on the TAU though I would occasionally snipe (and miss) the other players.

Ork managed to make it to the other side
I was already nearing my breaking point when I finally got the TAU player to 50% and made him go first in rolling if he retires from the field. He rolls badly and he is gone !!

Unfortunately my joy at having survived was not to last as the IG player to my front left started shooing at the grots near him.. resulting in me to start taking leadership checks as well (at Ld 7. well...)

This made me decide that if I am going down I am going to take everyone with me... So with a sneaky gleam I shot at everyone so that I can at least make them reach 50% models so that we can all start rolling for leadership checks..

Well as all of my good plans.. I choked and did not wound a single model.. > -- <

Then I promptly failed leadership check and that was that for me. Kent would eventually win the game and be crowned Kill Team champ for the year !

Conclusion

Well over all I didn't do too badly the fact that I actually made it to the finals was interesting. I had expected not to make if after an initial 2 losses  but I managed to just keep playing and see what would happen.

Well it was a great league and I am looking forward to how a 6th ED kill team league will look like.
I was not able to do my target painting which was to finish the lootas and the Nob still I managed to finish of the shoota boys so at least it wasn't a total lose.

Thank you Neutral grounds for sponsoring this event. I look forward to that 10% discount and getting me an Ork fighter :) Pictures of that event and other happenings can be found at the Neutral Grounds website here.

So long 5th ed and here's to 6th edition !!!

6TH ED and how they affect my Orks

Unless you have been under a rock the past couple of weeks you will know that 6th edition rules have just been released by Games Workshop. Of course their marketing team sucked at bringing the stuff out to light. I mean with the release from 4th ed to 5th ed you had a build up of what changes were made.

From the reviews that are coming from White Dwarf ( I haven't bought one since the 5th ed release was shown in White dwarf with the free Nob and Terminator) there were just pictures, pictures and more pictures without even a summary. So blegh.

So.. no review or at least summary of what the changes are made and what army builds are still viable. Not even a build up of hype for more than 4 months.. just that you have a 2 week announcement and that is it.

Hmm.. well then again maybe just maybe it will be explained more for the July white dwarf.. We shall see.

After trying hard to get me a copy of the of the rule book here is the reading (skim and others).. I am sure I am going to add some more insights after I re-read them all again.

6th ED RULES MUSINGS
 - Well the use of allies might be a boon for me since I have a lot of stuff that is painted but not enough to form an army.
- This looks more and more to be a Shooty Edition with the ability to still fire on the move heavy weapons.
- Assaulting from Transports are Nerfed.. Probably because of the potential for a long charge..BUT the overwatch will probably also cause the long charges to fail anyway.
- No +1 Attack when attacking multiple units. This is a killer. The loss of this and the one below are going to hurt the horde armies. (that and how assault moves are checked to be able to attack multiple chargers)
- Change to Furious charge - +1 ST and no Initiative bonus. But will not work when assaulting multiple units.
- The loss of not being able to run and then assault may be huge (well until I learn to do the math)
- The loss of not being able to assault after you come from Reserve unless stated by the rules.
--- Good bye Snikrot.. Hello Vulcha (maybe)
- Death Koptas move fast.. maybe Big Bombs are going to be so worth it now.
- Kans only having 2 Hull points.. there goes the wall of doom because
- Majority of  cover saves are at 5+ . The need for KFF is going to be more important, because of cover saves being rolled on a per model basis now.. This is going to have a lot of arguments.
- Orks cannot have psyker powers? BOOH.. I can understand that Necrons can't have them.. but we have Psyker weirdboyz.. So where is the reason as to why we do not get them?
- Looks like I want to be charged just for me to get Overwatch fire.. Shoota boyz still a good investment. Need to figure out if I can afford to put a Nob in there or not.

FAQ musings
- where the hell is the mention of what the AP value is for a Huge Choppa.. I wonder what it is going to be.
- The changes to the Glory Hog rules makes Tank Bustas viable if people keep wanting 2 FOC at 2k games then you can max out the elites with Tankbusta, lootas and burnas.. going to be less model count though.
- Lootas are still dangerous. and with the ability to make Snap Fire inside transports.. this should be interesting

What the F moments
- Nobs are considered Characters. but MEGANOBs are not.. whhaaat?
- regardless if you are assault transports you need to move only 6 inches to be able to disembark. Then the passengers can disembark up to 6in. BUT it's a normal move.. so difficult terrain needs to be rolled.

I am more tempted to game the system now by just having Allies to supplement the lose of oomph that I have. Obviously it is going to be IG.. Perhaps an outflanking Alraheim.. and Basilisks.. yeh that's the ticket.

That or perhaps it's time to dust off my Marines and give them a shot at this game.

40K LEAGUE KILL TEAM - Game 6 to 10

Nob kill team

GAME 6 vs NECRONS

And the kill team league continues.. From an impressive 7 players that were supposed to play last Sunday we were down to just 3 people. One of whom I had fought.. So there goes that plan to finish all of my 5 remaining games. Hohum

Fought the new guy with his Necron Kill Team -- consisting of 10 Deathmarks.

This was an interesting Game.. Interesting because of how we actually managed to get a draw with this game.. because both of our roles were sooo bad... it wasn't funny anymore.

First round of the game I saw that he was all lined up in one line while I had units that were hiding behind a building and was closer to him..

He realized the error of his ways when I started to outshoot him from range and he started to hide behind the buildings as well. I would manage to shoot down a couple of his models but as always they would go right back up. (Special Kill team rule for Necrons.. there Reanimation Protocols where always active)

Well I manage to decide to just stick it in and get into close combat.. Where the remainder of my models decide to stay..as I started to whiff my attacks and/or the Necrons decide to take their armor saves or they manage to get right back up.

I kept throwing models into the mix.. but my atrocious roles continued. My Nob Boss finally made it into combat but it was too little too late as we actually exceeded the 1 hour mark and it was a draw..

Wow..

GAME 7 vs SPACE MARINES (Stern Guard)

The week after I was up against Jojo and his 7 man SternGuard army.

Once again I had feelings of deja vu when my shooting and close combats started whiffing again.. Fortunately my grots came back to save my ass from the fire.

The man of the match would be once again the Grots as they showed what they can do by picking off SternGuard with their grot blasters while the Orks just shot up the real estate

Managed to bring him down to the required leadership test and he fails on the first roll !!! Woot!!! A win for the orks then.

===========================================
Needed to finish 3 games for us to make it to the deadline. Fortunately we all gamed at Lucas place and did an intense session of kill team and some 6th edition gaming

===================================================================

GAME 8 vs BLOOD ANGELS

Fought Jay and his 8 Blood Angel Jump army. Fortunately for me (and bad for him) his melta gun jumped out of difficult terrain and promptly killed himself. I then proceeded to shoot in the relatively open terrain of this kill team environment and just kept plinking away at his models.

Managed to get him down to below half  before he reached my lines. And then he fails on his leadership and I win the game !!

GAME 9 vs DARK ELDAR (Lucas rematch)

Faced off with Lucas again with his Dark Eldar Kill team. The critical part of the game was on the first turn when the alien monkey made it's charge and killed of an Ork and a grot. Fortunately the rest of his army was too far away so I targeted the Mutated beast with everything I had. I was able to whittle it down to just one wound but that meant it had 7 attacks (and Feel no Pain to booth from the pain token)

I decided to risk it and then threw a lot of bodies into the fight. I think if Lucas had decided to allocate everything to the Nob he would have beaten me but I was surprised that my regular boyz were the ones that managed to take the critter down. After that it was all just a matter of shooting at the rest of the panzies until they all broke.

GAME 10 vs BLOOD ANGELS (Jay rematch)

Another game against Jay's jump packing marines. As always it was the meltagun armed jump packer that died first. He did manage to hit my lines before I managed to decimate him. However poor die rolls on his part ensured that I managed to throw enough bodies at the combats that mattered and had him break with only one model left for him.

CONCLUSION: So 10 games with 7 Wins, 2 Losses and a Draw. Not a bad run at all. Now then all I have to do is finish painting these guys up, compete in the finals and then I can focus again on looking at the new 6th edition rules and see what I can do to make a better army for them.

PAINTING: 10 More Shoota Boyz done

My how time flies.. I had started painting these boyz last April just as I was getting ready to join the Kill team as mentioned in this post. This was the second set of 10 boyz from the shoota boyz squad that I wanted to finishs.. Sadly.. Work load and a very intense Personal Emergency prevented me from finishing them all in the right amount of time.
