WH40K: Death to the false Emperor

Here is the inventory of stuff I have for my Chaos Marines. Still have a lost of stuff to sort.

  • w/ bolter - 7
  • w/ ccw - 5
  • w/ lascannon - 4
  • w/ plasma gun - 2
  • w/ Autocannon - 5

There are a lot of other models that have not been listed (particularly my in limbo Mutants since there are no more LatD lists) I shall be waiting for the next chaos codex to come out for me to start using them again.

With Apocalypse out they came up with a new Datafex for Lost and the Damned and can be found here. (They also created the plague zombie lists as well here ). If this is going be used then my mutants just became cheaper (unless I want to make em big mutants) pity no more power fists for the boss though.. The low leadership is going to hurt but then... they can all infiltrate... hmmm... this should be good :D

GENERAL: Where time flies...

Wow once again its been July since I posted and it was all about inventory :P. Id like to make the issue that I was busy quite a lot these past few months but I really wasn't. However my brain was crammed with thinking of too many things.. (like getting married) so Ill use that as an excuse.

Well the misis is going to be off again by January 11 (will miss you dear.. sniff) so that means I need to get busy so not to get lonely. Her leaving also lets me clear my space again and lets me bring out all the painting stuff so maybe I can finally finish painting the stuff I was supposed to finish painting all those years before :D..

Heres to the new year :)

WH40K: The Guard Muster..

Here is the list of Imperial Guard Models (painted/unpainted/unassembled). I will not include the mutants that I have from my LaTd (though they will probably be used here to act as conscripts) but I am including my Traitors here.

GUARDSMEN
Rogue Era Guardsmen - nothing like old Guardsmen.

  • Captain (metal) - 1
  • Standard Bearer (etal) - 1
  • Comissar (metal) - 2
  • w/ Lasguns - 17 (unfinished - 4)
  • w/ Heavy Stubber - 2
  • w/ plasma - 4 (unfinished - 1)
  • w/ meltagun - 3 (unfinished - 1 , metal - 1)
  • w/ Grenade Launcher - 2 (unfinished - 1, metal -1)
  • w/ Missile Launcher (single man) - 2 (unfinished - 1)
  • Heavy Bolter Team - 2
  • Las Cannon Team - 4 (unfinished - 2 )
Cadian Guardsmen - all models unfinished
  • Sgts (metal converted to look like scouts) - 5
  • w/ Lasguns - 4
  • w/ ccw - 3 ( I know theres more of them I just can't find em)
  • w/ Heavy Stubber - 2

Blood Pact Guardsmen - converted from Cadian units with power backpacks. Can be used as storm troopers. (finished)

  • Seargeant - 1
  • w/ Lasguns - 7
  • w/ melta/plasma/flamer - 2

Catachan Guardsmen - all unfinished

  • Seargeant (metal) - 1
  • w/ Lasguns (for now) - 12
  • Autocannon Team - 3
  • Rough Riders conversion - 8
Tallarn Guardsmen - all unfinished  SOLD off

  • Metal Commander - 1
  • w/ plasma gun - 1
  • Autocannon Team - 1

Cultists - these are converted from Fantasy Empire militia with Dark Elf Heads. Can be used as conscripts or as another squad.

  • w/ lasguns - 9 (unfinished - 3)
  • w/ ccw - 9
  • w/ melta/plasma/flamer - 2
Other Units - a list of other foot troops that don't fit anywhere

  • Enginseer (metal) - 1
  • Ogryns (converted from Ogre bulls) - 5
  • Kroot Mercenaries (can be snipers or standard) - 11 (unfinished 1)
VEHICLES - armoured might of the Guard

  • Leman Russ - 2
  • HellHound - 1
  • Chimeras - 2
  • Sentinels - 9 ( 6 old school , 3 converted)  SOLD
Total number of non-vehicle models - 139
Total number of vehicles - 14

The number of infantry may seem impressive but these are all tied to several hodgepodge units. I have to reflect in the fluff that this is a unit formed from several mauled regiments that could not be reconstituted. I may still be able to include my mutants as conscripts, a little bit of fluff imagination is going to be needed.

GENERAL: Lets start counting - Inventory time

As with any modeler/warhammer player I at times will get infected with the bug that makes us buy too many models without ever getting around to finish painting the first batch of models we already have.

I had bought some stuff from a lot of people at bargain prices without realizing that I don't need them and sold some stuff as well. Still I have a lot of stuff that I need to sort out. With the Chaos Space Marines Codex coming out by August, my Lost and the Damned Army is about to go on limbo. I need to think of another army that I can use for the moment till the second Chaos book comes out. I had a mish mash of units for the LaTD and my worry is that I may not have all the elements of just one army to make a full 2000 point list.

The only way I'm going to find out though is to start doing inventory of everything. I'm just going to start on the 40k elements.

GENERAL: The New Workbench

Me not being able to paint for a long time I have reasoned was because of two things.

1) My mid-shift schedule (3pm - 11pm-ish) which threw my scheduled painting schedule (11-12) off kilter. I tried to paint during the morning but that wasn't exactly the most solitude time of the day for me.

2) The loss of my original workbench. It used to be a computer table and then I moved it upstairs to serve as my painting table. Well since I have a new computer (the same one I'm using right now to type this blog) it has returned to its original use of being ... well computer table.

Well i finally found me a new table to use. I originally bought a 2x2 plastic mono block table but since I still kept my work desk in my room the 2x2 table. So the 2x2 table had to be placed in the balcony. At first I was able to paint a bit but then during the summer months of March-April-May arrived, the area wasn't all that great anymore as a painting venue. Plus it started being a choir of having to move stuff from place to place (from inside the house to the outside and from different cabinets and such. I was able to do some needed arranging of my place again with the models that I have not yet been able to paint stored in just one cabinet and not all over the place as it used to be but I still needed a paint area that was small enough and easily stored in the room.

As seen on TV.

Table when folded
I had originally seen this table in one of the cables Shopping channels. I was interested in it but since I didn't have a credit card and the price of 1k was a bit too much to ask for a small table I had no point in buying one. However during a brief visit to a family friend of ours who just moved to a new house I saw the table again and was told that one can get it at Ace Hardware at half the cost.

With my interest piqued (and with just enough money left for the pay period) I got me the table.

Its not bad really, its adjustable with three table settings (angled up, level, angled down) though I would probably be only using it as a flat table.

Unfortunately it appears that the flat setting isn't truly flat and is slanted a bit but not too much so I shouldn't have a problem with my models suddenly rolling down. It is sturdy for such a table but its not that sturdy, so I need to avoid doing any heavy model work there aside from painting ( no cutting, filling or what not) and leave the rest of that outside (since I'm keeping as much dust out of the room as possible anyway)

Placing the table near my bed should give me enough incentive to get me a solid hour of painting before going to bed. Or so I hope ;)

BATREP: Weekday Warrior Gaming Batrep vs Emperors Children

I finally got some gaming again in our Week Day Warrior Sessions. I was sick and tired of lugging around my Army bag when I commutted from my work place to Romy’s office so I wanted to bring a more compact army (more expensive points wise models, less units). I have always toyed with using some DaemonHosts so I created a Radical Daemon Hunter army using Marine allies so I dusted off my Old Crimson Fist Marines and off they went to fit snugly in just one tool box.

Romy meanwhile had been tweaking his Emperor’s Children army which he was going to use for the Games Day here so off did I face them.

Army 1 : Daemonhunters
Army 2 : Emperor’s Children

Mission : Rules of Engagement – Army 1 – Breakthrough

Army 2 – Rescue

First Turn : Daemonhunters

DeamonHunter

- Lord Inquisitor , Scourge, Tarot, 3 Guardsmen with plasma guns

- 2 Daemon hosts

- 1 Eversor Assasin

- 8 Storm Troopers, 2plasma

- 8 Storm Troopers, 2plasma

- 5 Marines, 1 Lascannon, 1 plasma

- 5 Marines, 1 Lascannon, 1 plasma

- 8 Marines, 4 ML

Emperor’s Children

- Chaos Lt on Bike, Doom Siren, D str, Melta gun, power weapon

- 6 Noise Marines, 1 Blast Master, Sonic Blasters, Asp Champion w D Str, P wpn

- 6 Noise Marines, 1 Blast Master, Sonic Blasters, Asp Champion w D Str, P wpn

- 6 Noise Marines, 3 Blast Master, 2 Sonic Blaster, Asp champion w D Str, P wpn

- 6 Mounted Daemonettes

- 12 Daemonettes

Terrain and Deployment

There was moderate ruined terrain on the board but you had streets between them so you had fire lanes on left center and right as well as across.

I deployed the Dev Squad on my right at the far corner supported by Storm Troopers and a Daemonhost. I anchored my left with the other squad of Storm Troopers and the other Daemonhost with my 2 Las Plas squads at the back Center fire lane. My inquisitor was in the center behind terrain. He deployed one squad to each firelane and the Lt on my left flank. My Eversor infiltrated as near as possible to the Noise Marine squad on my right.

The Game

I get the first turn (even without the help of the Tarot) and my Dev squad shoots the Noise Marine squad on the other side of the table and drops the asp champion with the icon. The remnant eventually get wiped out by a Daemonhost though the fight drags on for too long. The infiltrating Eversor gets the first turn charge at the Noise Marines on the right though only killing 2 models because of the 2 inch kill zone. There it would be locked until the Mounted Daemonettes that the Asp Champion summons overwhelm it. The advancing Storm troopers to my right whittles the Mounted unit and finishes off the lone Asp Champion.

In the center the 2 las plas squads picked off the Havoc Squad one by one though they first aided the stormtroopers on my left in shooting everything but the kitchen sink at the turbo boosting but exposed Chaos Lt on bike, gutting him with a Las canon round. The Inquisitor is exposed by the shooting at the Lt and gets shot by the Havocs but they only kill 2 guardsmen. It hides in safety until it shoots at the advancing Daemonettes with its Scourge power.

The daemons were too busy killing the daemonhosts and the eversor on there side to make a serious dent in my lines. A last turn charge attempt to prevent me from achieving one objective was stopped when I poured all my firepower on the remaining Daemonettes. In the end I had secured his objective on my left with the storm troopers while my Las plas squads secured my own objective making me win this one.

Result: Win

Learning points

- The Daemonhosts are unpredictable. One actually pinned my units when it rolled Terrify. They were resilient though…Gotta learn to use them better

- I truly believe that my opponent’s army has to many options making them more expensive.. still Im not sure how to tweak this one.

- My inquisitor Lords Scourge was fun shooting at the Daemonettes but 143 points for just 4 T3 models is too much. Im thinking of just giving him Terminator Armor then a Psycannon then 3 henchmen to boost his stats (plus the Tarot). He would be expensive at 80ish points but with him Having IC status I doubt if he ever gets shot as long as I play it right.

GENERAL: The Rains have come ....

and come hard.

Well after some hard raining for the past few days, I went out to the 2nd floor terrace thats connected to my room and it just registered to me that I had left out most of my metal tools outside since I would make a mess inside with all the filing and cutting.

I had long decided that I would paint inside while the terrace would be for more dirty work. Well so I dumped my stuff there since December of last year since i knew that they would be safe since it would be the hot and dry months of March to May that was approaching. Then I totally forgot about them when the monsoon rains started coming.

So my tools have been soaking in a pan of water for 3 days now and they have well... rusted. I have managed to clean then dry them all out to take away the cakes of rust that have formed. Then I managed to clean a space out from them under the table to where my fan is. Too bad that I lost my painting table. Then again it was just a computer table and since I bought a new computer (which I am using right now) the loss of a painting table aint so bad.

I just got to get used to the new one.

GENERAL: Where did the painting go?

Wow, it has been two months since I last posted on this blog and I haven't touched a bottle of paint since. Even though I got more spare time than before, my work hours are in the middle of my previous painting schedule which is late evening till midnight. When I get home at 2:00am I am too sleepy to paint and it is too noisy and busy to paint in the morning. My paint is drying :P

I have made some progress though, well sorta. I have finally been able to inventory my Space Marine army for me to get the chance to get rid of some stuff from it. Unfortunately I have discovered that I really don't have much in the first place and if no one gets them I might as well convert them up to make em a bit more renegade looking. Though if I want to get into WarMachine I have promised myself to only buy them based on the stuff that I am going to sell.

I have managed to get games in. Actually just two this May after that tournament last Feb. I finally was able to get some Weekday Warrior Sessions with Obi using my Latd against either his Space Marines or when using a Chaos List. I need to get more games in so that the desire to paint comes back.

Ahh the things we gamers do :)

PAINTING: Varnishing Dust to Dust Marines.

Well it's nearly been two months since I last posted. Frankly not much painting going on, with real life and other hobbies in the way. Well at least one of my sports season is over so back to geeky gaming.

Procrastination hit me big time though, I'm thinking the loss of my painting area (the computer table I had used before has once again been used to hold a new computer). Still can't figure out where to paint and paint effectively. Well here goes.

I have been able to fix up and then matt varnish the converted Thousand Sons Marines. I had placed too much varnish though and the heavy application is showing, same as if you overdid a model with too much super glue. I need to retouch the mutants that I have and then seal em of with Varnish as well. Well here's to finally getting it done.

TOURNAMENT: 1K ROE Tournament Results

Finally returned to Robinson's Galleria for the 1K tournament for Warhammer 40k. Ironic since my new office is just 4 four blocks away. Unfortunately on the day of the tournament I had been out of town and totally without sleep. Still I promised I'd show up and there I went, sipping Gatorade and 2 packs of Extra joss.

So how did I fare? Well read on:

(Games were all using Rules of Engagement)

Game 1.

Opponent: Ian "Beefcake"
Army: Chaos Space Marine - (Khorne)
Result: Draw
What Happened:
16 Khorne Berzerkers in a squad is just plain nasty. Wittled one squad down to shooting and an unsupported charge by a mutant mob before my shooting units got overwhelmed by his Daemon prince and second Khorne squad.

Managed to eck out a draw when I used my second mutant mob to take one of his counters though it came close when his Khorne squad charged the Leman Russ I stupidly moved forward and almost made it into close combat.

Game 2.

Opponent: Jun Ubay
Army: Tau
Result: Draw
What Happened:

The lack of sleep was starting to take it's toll on my condition. My opponent seeing this (and because he hadn't had lunch) told me that if ever we get to fight that let's just get a draw and go find some grub. By luck would have it we indeed were matched up against each other and shook hands and declared it a draw as we went to look for grub and to the supermarket to get some Gatorade and Xtra Joss.

Game 3.

Opponent: JP "Shrumster"
Army: Imperial Guard
Result: Draw
What Happened:

The bunched up Guardsmen made a good target for the Russ's Battlecannon. My mutant mobs raced towards his lines but I decided to divert them to charge the enemy Sentinels so that I would be safe from enemy shooting and to take them all out. Unfortunately one mob got stuck the entire game trying to down 2 sentinels ( I already had 2 power fists and still it didn't go down until the last turn.

This left the game in the balance on the last turn as I had one mob on his counter and my Spawn on mine. His shooting couldn't destroy the mutant mob boss and Aspiring champion until his BattleCannon got right on target. My spawn weathered Lasgun, Plasma and Missile Fire to remain on my counter.

Good Draw game all around.

Opponent: Dick "Timberwolf"
Army: Space Wolves
Result: Minor Victory
What Happened:
I had good positioning on the counters while had the same. He unfortunately exposed his Vindicator to a Lascannon Marine denying him his protection there as it exploded due to a side hit. This allowed my Mutant mob to contest his counter for the win while my other mob did a diversionary attack on his lines

Conclusion:
There was no Game 5 for me as the effects of Gatorade and Xtra Joss started to wear off. All in all not a bad three games for me. I wonder how would I have fared if I actually got some rest. Ahh will never know :)

(for more details of the action go to the RHGC Blogspot website which can be found

WH40K: Return to Galleria:

As was read in my previous post I have been well "kinda" busy in preparing my forces for the 1k ROE tournament.

I brought the following to the tourney:

HQ
The Brothers ( Gomez and Burgos )
2 Aspiring Champions
- Pfist, bolt pistol, Daemonic Speed

Troop
- Renegade Marines from one faction and another. All have united there colors to fight the imperium

Space Marine Squad Alpha
5 Chaos Space Marines w/ 3 bolters
- Lascannon and Plasma

Traitor Squad Alpha
5 Traitors w/ 3 Las Guns
-Heavy Bolter (x1); Heavy Stubber (x1);
-Frag Grenades

Traitor Squad Beta
5 Traitors w/ 3 Las Guns
-Heavy Bolter (x1); Heavy Stubber (x1);
-Frag Grenades

Mutant Mob Crusher
16 Mutants w/ Firearms, Leaping, Frag Grenades
- w/ Mutant Boss - Leaping, Pfist, Frag

Mutant Mob BloodHand
17 Mutants w/ Firearms, Leaping, Frag Grenades
- w/ Mutant Boss - Leaping, Pfist, Frag

Heavy
1 Leman Russ Battle Tank
- Battle Cannon; Hull Heavy Bolter; Heavy Bolter Sponsons

The Anointed
4 Chaos Spawn

Models in Army: 55

Total Army Cost: 1000

I have no idea how this army is going to perform. I realize that with the opponents and the armies that I would be facing it was going to be an uphill battle.

Well will see.

PAINTING: Mad rush of painting.

One of the reasons that I like to join a tournament is that it forces me to paint my seemingly too high model count armies.

I had resolved to finish painting some more figures for the 1K ROE tournament to be held on Feb 17 at Robinson's Galleria and be done by Wed. Unfortunately procrastination and the lure of Company of Heroes gaming kept me from doing any painting until Wed.

Sigh.

Well I managed to finish painting my Chaos Marine with Lascannon and touched up on some other figs. Too bad the camera appears not to be able to get a very close up shot of the model. Nuts gonna have to use the older (but better) one.

I realize that the reason why I take so long with painting is because the consistency of my paints have turned to rubber. I have to constantly coax the paint to latch on to my brush.

Well at least that's done with, of to the gaming this Saturday. I wonder how I'd do?

Finished painting:
- Chaos Space Marine with Las Cannon

Finished touching up
- Leman Russ's Sponsoons (this thing still needs to have a Heavy Stubber attached)
- Based 4 Chaos Space Marines
- Added Details to the 2 Aspiring Champions
- Had one Traitor Soldier whose ammo drum was broken off and I could'nt find it. Just touched up the exposed part of the model.

TO DO:
- Once the gaming is over I need to Varnish the models which I resolve to do after the tournament as there is no more time left.

GENERAL: Another start

Well here it is, yet another blog for me to write on. Not that my writing has gotten any better as I age. Still this blog shall serve my own purposes. That is to finally log all the stuff that I need to finish assembling and painting (which are basically miniatures(figurines) for Games Workshop's games.

I have so many half started projects that I don't know where to start. I keep leaving something unfinished before i jump into another project. First I need to get organized again, unfortunately I think I have too much stuff to be able to just dump them in one part of the room. That or the game boxes are just to damn big and i need to replace them with something smaller.

Will need to do inventory of all my stuff again, then prioritize what needs to be finished.

Blegh. I'm beginning to dread it already.
