"Ignorance can be cured, Stupidity cannot"
-- that sums up my games last Sunday at the Oberon Silver cup :D
Without any preparation except fixing all of the broken models that I have I went and played at the Oberon Silver Cup on the weekend. I had spent the week before repairing everything that I could and looking for all missing models that I could.

WIP : Oberon Cup and 40kGT
Well it is less than 48 hours away for the Oberon Cup to be done at Centris this Nov 10 (Typhoon be danged). This will be the first time that I will be playing with my OnG army since last years Jojo Cup. I decided to go for this to at least force me to start repairing/fixing assembling the huge amount of backlogged Orcs and Goblins I still have.
For the past week all I have ever done is assemble magnetic movement trays using old CD cases and the old crafts magnet tray that I have had stored for the past oh ten years ago. I realize that after bringing out all the other stuff I have a ton of to do things before the Oberon cup and I have just one day left to do it all.
Not to be left behind, for 40k there is still the GT and I need to get everything sorted out for that as well. At least I have managed to detail the Riptide (aka "FireMagnet) to at least Tabletop standards.
Here we go. :P

WIP: Tau Allies and first work with InstaMold
Well I caved in and started to make me some Tau Allies for my Orks.. (For the Greater Waaagh)
I was planning to field the following TAU allies.
Had a bit of a problem with the Skyray and I lost the sensor bit for the turret when I was cleaning it on the balcony. A wrong move and poof it went over the ledge..(phat Effing fingers). Fortunately I had another Skyray so still had that same bit .Well necessity is the mother of invention so out came the InstaMold.
After having this for months I finally brought it out and tried it and I was impressed with how relatively easy it was. I did use Epo-Wood putty for this which is the best putty really because this thing can be easily cut but is durable.
A friend of mine was gracious enough to prime and base coat my Tau Ally figs for me.. no way was I going to finish painting them all in time for the GT.. So now all I need to do is highlight them.
Well I got less than a month now to finish all of it .. :)

GENERAL : Finished Reading HORUS HERESY : OUTCAST DEAD
Wow.. that was a rather interesting read. No actual Legion Story just a few renegade Marines and what was left of the past. I do not understand why the Crusader Army was there on Terra in the first place..
And I was surprised on how they changed (well from what I knew) of when Magnus arrived on Terra.
This book left me more questions than answers though.. maybe it is meant to be.
Hmm..

GENERAL : HORUS HERESY : Age of Darkness read.
Ah well looking on the bright side of things of being sick for 5 days is that I managed to finish another Horus Heresy book in under a day.. The short stories were okay.. not as mind blowing as FIRST HERETIC but still good..
It does prequel and sequel to more of the stories along the way.
Now on to reading The Outcast Dead.

GENERAL - WIP and a game here and there.
Time Space Warp
Well there goes August. The whole second floor had to be repainted and one room had replaced its ceiling so all of my stuff for the second half of August went into storage. Only managed to finish the painting by the start of September. That means my plans to finish painting something has been hugely delayed. That means that I had stopped working on the grot crew batteries after priming them white (and putting on some Vallejo Green) .. now I need to clean off the dust.. (doh) before I can start on them again.
Then I got sidetracked and managedto partially finish something.. and that something was actually a SM drop pod. (well that came out of the blue). Obviously just partly assembled it until I ran out of super glue.. at which point I just started on that Skyray of mine.
Gaming at the Shakk
-Managed to get two games in at the Shakk, the place where I first started to play Warhammer 40k back in the 90s. Got a game with Benjie again using my old Marine army (had to scrounge for them) with me doing a Stern Guard drop pod list and just getting in your face against the Imperial Guard. While my second game I just faced off against Obi's DA army.. Still need to figure out how to face off against Terminators.. oh well.
Working on the Skyray -
I lost a couple of bits while I was moving around place to place assembling the model. One obvious and the other not so. Finding this out distracted me when I was assembling the front sensor and made me screw up some more. Sigh. Maybe I can finish this within the week as I err plan to just stay at home.. (to er save up on purchases and maybe do some assembly work)
Here we go with this week.
So many projects.. Need to focus.

GENERAL : Finished Reading FIRST HERETIC
Well that was an exceptional read on how the WORD BEARERS were first corrupted. I had dragged reading it at the start but after the middle part the pace increased so that I just kept reading until the end of the book.
Now I need to get a copy of the other HORUS HERESY books and finish them..
This is going to be a long reading list.

WIP FRIDAY UPDATE: Lootas and Grot Crew
The Philippine Grand Tournament schedule has been officially announced and I have more than 2 months to finish an army and play it in the GT. I am once again going to join it for the purpose of forcing myself to finish painting more of my unpainted stuff. I am more of a gamer than a painter really but having to join tournaments does push me to finish models that have been languishing for more than a decade now :P

WIP: Shokk Attack, Grot Crew , Lootas
With the planned announcement of the 40k GT to be by October and with my new project giving me some less stress days I had me some time over the past few days to finish off my inventory of my (mostly) models as well as getting some hobby time in.
I had promised myself that I would use units for the GT that had not been completed (unlike some others that are all focused on using as little models that needed to be painted/assembled) so as to force me to complete a few of the modelling projects that have been languishing for so long .
So with the wife and baby having to sleep in the downstairs bedroom since our room has turned into a mini-bodega this gave me time to do some assembling and modelling work.

BOARDGAME Time at the House... and hey where are the Hobby Updates?
Last weekend after watching Pacific Rim managed to grab Obi and Fred over and with Donuts and some Soda we went to have some good old Afternoon Boardgame sessions.
TAKENOKO
First up was Obi's game of Takenoko. It was a game of Move Farmer to grow Bamboo while the Panda Eats it. It was a light game and a quick one but has some good strategy decisions there as well. Makes for a good introduction game for the non-gamers. Fred Managed to beat us all by getting to his 8 objectives (getting the extra VP from the Emperor) and won this round.
SMASH UP
Onwards to a quick game of SMASH UP!!! Fred and Obi dig the race combinations and start having a blast Managed to eck out a win with my Robot-Dinosaur Faction. Huzzah !!
SMALL WORLD
Obi's requested game. You cannot spell Slaughter without the Laughter is its tagline. :P. I started to play as Wizards, Obi as the Amazons and Fred getting lucky with Spirit Ghouls. I tried to stay as far away from Fred as I can but the Ghouls kept on coming.
After 3 turns I then decided to have the Wizards go to Decline and get some Wealthy Halfling . Meanwhile Fred has declined his Spirit Ghouls and got some Fortified Elves while Obi goes for some Flying Tritons. Fred's ability to generate Fortifications that create VP and his still attacking Ghouls even when on decline allows him to rack up some massive points. I go to decline the Halflings and get some Commando Humans while Obi goes for Orcs.
In the end the Human push was not enough and Fred gets a massive amount of points from the Fortifications to win the game !! (He was getting like 15+ points a turn)
SMASH UP PART TWO
We had one more game before we called it its. I was playing Alien Tricksters while Obi got Robot Ninjas and Fred Pirate Zombies ( yes those names sound awesome)
Fred played excellent with some good Broadside cards in play to kill off my and Obi;s buggers while he kept cycling his heavy stuff back to Break bases and get first place. His last play of playing Broadsides at The Mall (the one that gave 1Vp for every minion you have) ensured that he was the only one with enough Minions there and with 6 of them got the 6VP to win the game !!!
A fun time was had by all. On to next time. Perhaps me and Obi and Fred can finally attend an Open Gaming day this end of July.
WAIT WHAT ABOUT YOUR MODELLING STUFF?
Yes I have not forgotten. I managed to go back to Devior and got me some Vallejo Model Colors again. I plan to finally finish the Corporation this week so I can go back and touch up the 16 Shoota Boyz that I did for that GOLD CUP.
Here is crossing my fingers :D

GENERAL: Finished Reading Prospero Burns
Finally finished reading this while staying at home watching over my baby daugther. It is an interesting tale of the battle for Prospero from the other side of the fence. How the Wolves were the Executioners and the last line of defence of the Emperor of Man and what they had to do they had no choice in the matter.
How Chaos manipulated them all was intriguing. How the two brothers were set against each other.
I wonder if I would be reading more of Hawser in some future Black Library books. I wonder if Russ heard Hawsers tale and accepted what happened as being manipulated by the forces of Chaos. I wonder..
Anyway off to backtrack and read the First Heretic now.

BOARD GAME : SMASH UP !!!
Well not really a board game but a card game, anyway after watching the Youtube video by Whil at TableTopGaming and looking at the reviews went out and bought this last Friday. After a Company Basketball game I got to bring this and have a game at the Shakk and had a blast.
Manage to play 3 games with me not getting a win in. The first game was a Dinosaur-Zombie win then a Wizard-Ninja win and the last was a Zombie-Ninja win.
I actually like the game. Perhaps it is the geek in me that likes to combine the different (stereotypical perhaps? ) factions and combine them for world domination. It is light and fast enough that even non-hardcore games can play this and have fun.
I am going to save up and get that Awesome Power 9000 expansion eventually. Not too keen on the Cthulu expansion yet, the additional Madness deck feels that it needs to be played with only Cthulu factions and not mix with the other expansions. Will see.

2013: State of the Spawning Ground Address
Wow how fast time flies. It is already the 2nd half of the year 2013 and I still have not reviewed my past years Hobby life. Let us rectify that a bit shall we.
2012 on a personnal note went to a very big dive in the middle of the year (June to be exact) and stayed there for a while until I managed to rebound in October. As such my hobby plans ground to a halt during that time and beyond. So let us be more specific ...
Last year I made a couple of commitments (link to previous thread) So how did I fare? Let us check:

PAINTING: DREADBALL TEAM "Toyoda Destroyers" Complete
Finally a painting update.
Finished the initial 8 man team for the Marauder Dreadball team. My "Toyoda Destroyers" are complete. The mold lines were weird (and hard) to remove. Did a couple of things wrong with the painting but the team does look good from 3 feet away X).
Now I need to paint the Corporation team this time ( Crizpa Knights) and then I should be able to Varnish all of them in one go.

DREADBALL : Preliminary Games for the Start of the Centris League
With our sponsor Carlos we started with the preliminary games so that we can start with the seeding of our teams for the first Centris Dreadball League using the standard League rules from Season 1

WIP: And now back to Dreadball :D
With the Triumvirate Wars done for now will be back to assembling my Toyoda Destroyers and Crizpa Knights team for Dreadball :)
Finished assembling and cleaning the models but those were a lot of mold lines (and hard to remove). I am going to be tempted to going back and cleaning the mold lines again after I wash them with soap and water.
There is a sort of mini-league going to happen next week so I need to once again hustle to get it all done :)
I also need to finish the 16 ork boyz and the the Dakkajet that I rushed painted for the Triumvirate Wars. Here is to me finishing something for the week :)

TRIUMVIRATE WARS: Recap and Tourney
The not playing in one game was not my liking but with 6th ed not being a fast paced game anymore, with me being able to rest on the 2nd game and I play horde lists well I guess it was still okay :P.
My team mates for the Green Team (for want of a team name) where Space Marine Obi and Chaos Space Marine Joel :D with my Green Tide of Orks forming the third man.
So how did we fare?

DREADBALL !!!: Where the action never stops !!!
As if I haven't other things that I needed to do (like finish my Dakkajet for the May 19 TRIUMVIRATE WARS) I had just purchased the DREADBALL : futuristic sports game from Mantic last week and had a couple of games in already.
I can say that I am impressed with it. It borders between a Board game and a Miniatures game a bit and it is the first Sports Game that I had acquired. I like the rules with it and how it plays as I was able to get 2 games in already.
There is talk of a league here that is going to get started by first Weekend of June. After I finish with the May 19 Tournament I am going to finish painting up my Orx force and bash some heads and win me the League !!! (I wish) :P

GOLD CUP TOURNAMENT - 2013
Have not have had a chance to play much these first few months because I was out of the country but I managed to make up for it by getting some practice games in and competing in the RHGC (Rolling Hills Gaming Club) Gold tournament, where as a way to push the hobby -- everything on the table had to be painted.
Having had the lazy streak for the past decade in finishing an army it was tough going in where you MUST be painted. Fortunately I skipped around this by actually finishing of and playing with a Painted army in the previous year's GT event
I was at least able to paint the bases of my grot krew with the same paint style as the rest of the Ork army so in I went.

GT 2012: TOURNAMENT REPORT
Note: Talk about a very very late post.. better posted than nothing though :D
Well with a bit of reusing some models, completing a couple and then having the wife finish of a vehicle or two I actually managed to have a fully painted 1500 army and brought it to a GT !!!. Wohoo. Finally. :D
So with the wife's permission I managed to bring the army and play it at Centris where I managed to get 5 games in with most of my games being on time :D. This was unusual because I play a horde army and yet still finished the games I had within the time limit by doing the following :
1) Reduce deployment time -- this was accomplished by ensuring that each unit was individually split from each other
2) Fewer units but Bigger unit size -- usually I would have 3 medium (20 actually per squad) mob of boyz. To minimize the time i would have to move individual squads (like figuring out where they would need to go).. I decided to just go and use Two big Units of 26 boyz each and be done with it.
3) Avoid close combat at all. Rolling for ork close combat can be both great and dissapointing at the same time. Soo much dice can be rolled with bad results. So I will only assault something if it is down to 4 models or less and I just need to finish it off. Will not go after bigger sized units and instead will just shoot shoot and shoot.

WIP: Second DakkaJet Aseembly complete
Well I have not been totally idle with regards to the hobby :P.
Managed to start assembling the dakkajet that I have. I tried to loot what I saw on the internet before on how he reversed the side engines and placed the much needed extra set of Supa Shootas at the bottom. It looked easy but as always it was easier seen than done.
Had to cut/file away the extra stuff and when I was going to put the tube in I realized that It was bigger than what I had expected. No matter I just dived headlong in and made do with what I did.
After that most of the assembly was a breeze since I had done this before (err except for that rear chain thing which I had forgotten to assemble first (doh).
Now I just need to paint this (as well as the cockpit)

GENERAL : Finished Reading: Thousand Sons
Well I'll be darned. I finally finished reading Thousand Sons and I can say that I totally enjoyed reading the book. From the start to finish.. one can see how Magnus made his Faustus deal and how Ahriman wanted to fight for his legion.
Onward to reading Fallen Angels. I hope this is a good read as well.
(and yes I really need to post the 2012 GT bat reps already :P )

GENERAL It's 2013 - Where are the posts?
Well as always it's already Feb of 2013 and still no updates :P.. I would like to explain it away as me being busy with personal (emergencies) and work (unexpected travel plans) but well those are just excuses :P
Anyway here is to the new year.. may I be able to roll more dice this year than last year and may I finally finish painting my Crimson Space Marines this year :P (the one I have had for the past 16 years :D )
